Information

Temple Basin walk

Time: 3 hr return

This track starts from above the bush-line at the SH 73 roadside car-park, five km north of Arthur’s Pass township. A nature photographer’s dream, the track zig-zags up the hill to an open tussock basin and the Temple Basin Ski Club buildings. On a clear day you get magnificent views of Mt Rolleston across the valley.

  • The track is not really nice because it's just up a gravel roud but the view is nice

  • It was a good one hour hike up the hill, quite slippery on a way back though so wear appropriate shoes!

You're walking on the sunshine the whole hike and get all these amazing views -- highly recommended!

  • Perfect place to lose track of time.

An amazing hike up river, either over river stones with a glacial river by your side or through the bush. Either/or absolutely awesome.

  • Very steep, nice view from the top, took us 1 and a half hours one way.

  • Great great great!

LOTS of snow when we were there.

Knee-deep in the snow, going up. AMAZING views!

  • Rocky and steep but a tiring walk.

At the end a great view but not the best trail for children.

  • Stunning view, less people, public shelter at Arthurs Pass very good for cooking and relaxing/waiting (for better weather).
